U9/U10 COMPETITIVE PROGRAM FAQ'S

Q: What is the commitment?

A: Players in this age group commit to the full season, running from August through July. Our team participates in two competitive traveling seasons through the Twin Cities Soccer League (TCSL). We understand that your player may be involved in other sports, so they have the flexibility to choose to participate in both Fall and Spring/Summer seasons or choose just one:

  • Fall Season: Late August through the first week of October
  • Spring/Summer Season: April through the first week of July

Additionally, we offer Winter Training and Summer Camps that your player can choose to participate in for further development and enjoyment.

Q: What nights do you play?

A: Play nights are determined by TCSL which are released in August for the Fall Season and January for the Spring season.

  • Fall Season: Weekends – Friday, Saturday or Sunday
  • Spring/Summer Season: Weeknights – game nights determined by TCSL

Q: Can my player play another sport while playing competitive soccer?

A: The team is competitive so during the season, we expect players to prioritize training practices and games. At the same time, we pride ourselves on being an accessible program for multi-sport athletes. If your child plays multiple sports, please work with us ahead of tryouts to discuss if it would be a fit.

Q: Does the club take friend requests?
A: The club does not accept friend requests for the competitive program.

Q: Where are games played?
A: League games are split between home games in Bloomington and an away schedule in nearby communities in the Twin Cities. Tournament games are also in nearby communities. All practices will be in Bloomington.

Q: Is there a uniform?
A: The club currently uses an Adidas uniform kit purchased through Soccer.com by each family. It comes with a home and away jersey/shorts/socks combination. We are currently on a 2-year uniform cycle, anticipating a new uniform kit for Fall 2025.

Q: How much does it cost, what do fees cover?
A: Coach pay, fields, turf time, refs, tournaments and league due. The uniform kit is an additional expense paid directly to the uniform vendor. If teams agree to do additional tournaments or travel for tournaments, there would be additional expenses shared by each member of the team.

Q: Is Financial Aid available?
A: Bloomington United Soccer Club strives to make competitive soccer affordable for all participants. We provide financial aid to those who can demonstrate a financial need; however, funds are limited and will be awarded on a first-come, first-service basis. For full details and financial aid deadlines, please review our TRYOUTS page.

Q: Are there tryouts?
A: We are committed to placing all U9 – U10 players on a competitive traveling team. We host tryouts, assessments and player identification sessions in July for players to attend. At these sessions, we identify players interested in a competitive team and evaluate their level of play to determine team placement. If players are unable to attend those sessions, please ensure you are still registered to show your interest. If your player participated in our previous season, they will be evaluated based on last seasons performance. If you have not played with Bloomington United before, please reach out to our club administrator at admin@bysc.org for next steps.

Q: What competitive level will my player be at?
A: TCSL has three competitive levels for the U9-U10 teams; red (highest), white, or blue (lowest). During the tryouts, players are evaluated on technical skill and ability. Once we assemble a roster, the club will determine which of three competitive levels to place the team at.

If you have additional questions, please reach out to our club administrator, admin@bysc.org, for assistance.

BIRTH YEAR

Competitive teams are comprised of players born in the same year. The soccer year starts August 1 and goes through July 31. A player born in 2016 would be considered U9 for the 2024-2025 seasons and a player born in 2015 would be considered U10.

It is possible to play up with club approval based on roster sizes and player ability. Some players born in 2017 are ready for competitive soccer and they are welcome to try out.

TOURNAMENTS

In the competitive seasons, our teams have exciting opportunities to participate in tournaments. While the Fall season currently does not include any tournaments, the Spring/Summer season fees cover entry into two club-approved tournaments. Should teams wish to participate in additional tournaments, these would incur an extra team expense. This structure allows for flexibility and ensures our players gain valuable competitive experience.
