U13 & OLDER COMPETITIVE PROGRAM FAQ'S

Q: What is the commitment?
A
: Players U13-14 (and any gap year players who would be U15 but not in high school yet), commit to the full season, running from August through July. The main spring/summer season for all U13 and older teams begins in early April and ends in early July. Our team participates in two competitive traveling seasons through the Twin Cities Soccer League (TCSL). We understand that your player may be involved in other sports, so they have the flexibility to choose to participate in both Fall and Spring/Summer seasons or choose just one:

  • Fall Season: Late August through the first week of October
  • Spring/Summer Season: April through the first week of July

Additionally, we offer Winter Training and Summer Camps that your player can choose to participate in for further development and enjoyment.

Q: What nights do you play?

A: Play nights and game nights are determined by TCSL which are released in August for the Fall Season and March for the Spring season.

  • Fall Season: Two practices on weeknights and games on weekends – Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
  • Spring/Summer Season: Two to three practices plus one game on weeknights

Q: Can a player play competitive soccer while participating in other activities/sports?
A:
The team is competitive so during the season, we expect players to prioritize training practices and games. At the same time, we pride ourselves on being an accessible program for multi-sport athletes. If your child plays multiple sports, please work with us ahead of tryouts to discuss if it would be a fit.

Q: Does the club take friend requests?
A:
The club does not accept friend requests for the competitive program.

Q: Where are games played?
A:
League games are split between home games in Bloomington and an away schedule in nearby communities in the Twin Cities. Tournament games are also in nearby communities with out of town or out of state travel up to individual teams with guidance from the club.

Q: Is there a uniform?
A:
The club currently uses an Adidas uniform kit purchased through Soccer.com by each family. It comes with a home and away jersey/shorts/socks combination. Additional items can be purchased at your discretion. We are currently on a 2-year uniform cycle, anticipating a new uniform kit for Fall 2025.

Q: How much does it cost, what do fees cover?
A:
Fees cover Coach pay, fields, turf time, refs, tournaments and league dues. The uniform kit is an additional expense paid directly to the uniform vendor. If teams agree to do additional tournaments or travel for tournaments, there would be additional expenses shared by each member of the team. See the chart at the bottom of this page for specific program costs and player fees.

Q: Is Financial Aid available?
A:
Bloomington United Soccer Club strives to make competitive soccer affordable for all participants. We provide financial aid to those who can demonstrate a financial need; however, funds are limited and will be awarded on a first-come, first-service basis. For full details and financial aid deadlines, please review our TRYOUTS page.

Q: Are there tryouts?
A:
We are committed to placing all players on a competitive traveling team. We host tryouts in July for players to attend. At these sessions, we identify players interested in a competitive team and evaluate their level of play to determine team placement. If players are unable to attend those sessions, please ensure you are still registered to show your interest. If your player participated in our previous season, they will be evaluated based on last seasons performance. If you have not played with Bloomington United before, please reach out to our club administrator at admin@bysc.org for next steps.

Q: What competitive level will my player be placed at?
A:
TCSL has four competitive levels for the U11 and U12 teams; National (highest), Regional, State, or City. Teams U13 and older typically have a history in the club to determine playing level or through league play may have earned a particular skill level. Depending on league placement, teams may self select the level they wish to play at.

If you have additional questions, please reach out to our club administrator, admin@bysc.org, for assistance.

11v11 Play | Birth Years 2012, 2011, 2010

At the U13 – U15 levels, players often begin to focus on a sport to which they will make a significant commitment. Bloomington United offers teams at various competitive levels to accommodate both players who wish to dedicate more time to soccer and those who are multi-sport athletes. Our licensed coaches employ age-appropriate training methods to develop well-rounded athletes, focusing on technical skills, tactical understanding, physical conditioning, and psychological resilience. Our program not only aims to improve soccer skills but also emphasizes the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and a love for the game. We strive to create a positive and supportive environment where players can thrive both on and off the field. Whether your child is solely dedicated to soccer or balancing multiple sports, we provide the flexibility and support needed for their success.

In order to participate in our competitive program, all players should attend one of our competitive tryouts. This session allows our coaches to assess players’ skills and strengths on the field and match them with an appropriate team. One of Bloomington United’s core goals is to be inclusive and give every player a chance to play. While we do hold tryouts to evaluate players and attract new talent to the club, we are committed to finding roster spots for every child who registers. Our focus is on developing players—helping them grow, learn, improve their skills, and cultivate virtues like teamwork and sportsmanship. We believe that our successes on the pitch stem from prioritizing growth and player development, which is why we never turn players away.

Competitive teams are comprised of players born in the same year.  The soccer year starts August 1 and goes through July 31.  A player born in 2012 would be considered U13 in the 2024-2025 season and a player born in 2011 would be considered U14. TOURNAMENTS

In the competitive seasons, our teams have exciting opportunities to participate in tournaments. While the Fall season currently does not include any tournaments, the Spring/Summer season fees cover entry into two club-approved tournaments. Should teams wish to participate in additional tournaments, these would incur an extra team expense.
